Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Web Services unveiled plans to invest £8B in the UK over the next five years as part of a major push to expand data center infrastructure across the country.
The majority of the jobs created by this investment will support AWS’ data center supply chain. This investment brings AWS’ total investment in the UK from 2020-2028 to more than £11B.
“The next few years could be among the most pivotal for the UK’s digital and economic future, as organizations of all sizes across the country increasingly embrace technologies like cloud computing and AI to help them accelerate innovation, increase productivity, and compete on the global stage,” said Tanuja Randery, VP and managing director for EMEA at AWS.
Amazon (AMZN) is the latest of the three big companies scaling in the UK, with Google (GOOG) Cloud and Microsoft (MSFT). Google Cloud plans to invest $1B in the UK to expand data center infrastructure, while Microsoft (MSFT) confirmed around £2.5B to expand AI growth.
