CNN anchor Jake Tapper took a swipe at Democrats who have long rejected concerns about illegal immigrants voting in elections following Tuesday’s stunning revelation out of New Jersey.

Democratic New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced that thousands of non-citizens had been mistakenly added to voter rolls.

Sherrill said that “roughly 6,600 people” who were never eligible to vote were registered due to the “serious software error” by the state’s DMV between June 2023 and June 2024 during the previous  administration.

She also revealed that “fewer than 400 individuals” among the noncitizens ended up voting in elections.

While covering the breaking news, Tapper acknowledged that the recent development does not benefit Democrats.

“This is not good for Democrats’ argument that there’s no such thing as undocumented immigrants voting,” Tapper said during a panel discussion.

Conservative critics on social media took aim at liberals, suggesting that the New Jersey revelations validate their concerns about noncitizens being able to cast ballots in elections.

Members of the Trump administration have highlighted New Jersey’s controversy to push the passing of the SAVE America Act meant to address election security.

Days before Sherrill’s disclosure, President Donald Trump gave a primetime address from the White House renewing his call for Congress to pass the SAVE America Act while shedding light on election vulnerabilities in past elections cycles and China’s effort to meddle in US elections.
