Christian Yelich says ‘Brewer Ball’ is difficult to duplicate for this season after World Series triumph | Invesloan.com

The Milwaukee Brewers’ celebration continues, and it likely won’t be stopping for quite a while.

After all, the organization and its fan base have never celebrated a World Series title, and the entire state, let alone the city itself, is still on cloud nine after the five-game victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Christian Yelich has been waiting for this moment since he landed in Milwaukee in 2018, and since that last out was made at Tropicana Field, he understood immediately how much it means to the loyal fan base as well as his teammates.

“It’s been awesome,” Yelich told OutKick just before celebrating once more with Brewers fans at Raising Cane’s for a victory “shift” in Greendale, Wisconsin. “We’ve been busy kinda bouncing around everywhere. Not a whole lot of sleep, but I think that’s kinda how it should be. Still taking it all in and celebrating with everybody still. It’s been an awesome couple days.”

But, while the Brewers relish their first-ever title, all 29 other MLB teams might be trying to rethink how to play the game itself after “Brewer Ball” took over this season.

Milwaukee’s style of play, which emphasizes fundamentals and situational baseball — think compared to the launch angle, raw power mindset others have adopted in today’s game — earned the moniker whilst winning 103 regular-season games. Then, they made a postseason run that shocked some, especially after sweeping the back-to-back-champion Los Angeles Dodgers and almost doing the same to the Rays in the World Series before a Game 4 walk-off by Tampa Bay saved them for another day.

Does Yelich believe the league will follow suit and get back to fundamentals being top priority? “Brewer Ball” is clearly successful, but there’s a caveat for Yelich.

“Yeah, I think everybody tries to do it, but it’s really hard to do it,” he explained. “It takes a team that’s together and everybody’s bought in and going in the same direction. I think that was one of our biggest strengths – the togetherness of everybody and everybody sharing a common goal. Being willing to do whatever it took to accomplish that.”

Perhaps Yelich’s point is the biggest part of “Brewer Ball” – having a team bought into doing the little things needed to win those close matchups. It takes a special group, which is what Milwaukee had been all season long through the highs and lows.

Now, Yelich and the rest of the crew are reaping the benefits of that selfless style of play that other teams may be trying to replicate down the road.

While they try, Yelich will keep interacting with fans like he did on Monday, surprising more than 400 fans at Raising Cane’s following Friday’s victory parade through the streets of Milwaukee. He, Brice Turang and manager Pat Murphy even made an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend.

Yelich, joined by his mother, grandmother and dog Winston, greeted fans, signed baseballs, jerseys and more, and continued to party on.

“Just seeing people make memories and celebrate the championship with us. We knew how much it meant to everybody and how much everybody wanted us to get this done,” he said. “We’ve been close for a while now and finally getting over that hurdle and finally getting it done has been awesome. Just really cool to see how happy it’s made people and how much fun everybody’s been having the last few days.”
