Growth in UK house prices slowed almost to a standstill in October after rising strongly in September.
Prices rose just 0.1 per cent in the month, taking the average UK house price to £265,738. Prices had risen 0.6 per cent in September, according to mortgage lender Nationwide.
Prices were up 2.4 per cent from October last year, a slowdown from the 3.2 per cent annual rise in September.
Economists polled by Reuters had expected 2.8 per cent annual growth and 0.3 per cent month-on-month.
Amy Reynolds, head of sales at west London estate agent Antony Roberts, said the Budget had not been as dramatic as feared and “the ‘wait and see’ approach we have seen from some buyers . . . will hopefully now ease”.
