A senior executive at US healthcare company UnitedHealth Group was fatally shot ahead of an investor event in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Brian Thompson, who had served as the chief executive of the group’s UnitedHealthcare division since 2021, was pronounced dead at hospital after being shot outside the New York Hilton Midtown, the person said.
New York Police Department officials said a 50-year-old male had been killed in the area but would not confirm his identity until the family was informed. Thompson was 49 at the end of February 2024, according to a UnitedHealth regulatory filing.
UnitedHealth Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
