The recall stemmed from a two-year NHTSA investigation that recognized a minimum of 13 crashes with a minimum of one fatality and a number of severe accidents. The NHTSA doc acknowledged that Tesla stated “a portion of the remedy both requires the owner to opt in and allows a driver to readily reverse it.”
