Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) has issued a recall notice for more than 200K SUVs and pickup trucks containing certain defective MOPAR anti-lock braking system control modules that could cause a failure in the electronic stability control systems.
Due to a software malfunction, the anti-lock braking system control module may disable the stability control system which is critical to maintaining control of a vehicle during certain situations including adverse weather conditions.
The loss of the electronic stability control system could increase the likelihood of a crash, according to the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NHTSA requires all new passenger cars to include an electronic stability control system.
The vehicles impacted were the 2022 Dodge Durango SUV and 2022 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickup trucks.
The company has also issued a recall for 2023 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks for an insufficient weld in the transmission control unit that can result in a leak onto electrical components and a loss of drive power or park function.
Stellantis shares are lower for a third consecutive day.
