President Biden on Friday appeared to tout negotiations between his administration with the Senate to deal with the disaster on the southern border regardless of House Speaker Mike Johnson saying such laws could be “dead on arrival” in his chamber.
In a press release launched by the White House, Biden urged Congress to assist a bipartisan package deal that may tie border safety measures with assist to Ukraine. He stated the phrases negotiated with senators could be the “toughest and fairest” set of reforms ever to safe the border.
“It would give me, as President, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed,” he stated. “And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law.”
