Formula 1 champ Max Verstappen set to tackle 100 go-karters in wild made-for-TV stunt | Invesloan.com

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to turn one of the best Formula 1 drivers of all-time loose on a karting track with 100 mere mortals, we’re going to find out.

It was announced that Red Bull’s four-time champion Max Verstappen — fresh off a rough weekend in which he crashed out of his home race on the opening lap — will take on scores of karters in a special, made-for-TV event called “Max vs 100.”

It will take place on a purpose-built karting track at Silverstone — site of the British Grand Prix — and will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on Disney+.

    This will be wild.

First of all, I’m a sucker for made-for-TV stunts. Motorcycle jumps, tightrope walks, whatever David Blaine feels like doing (which is usually hanging upside down or sitting in a chunk of ice for a few days), I’m in.

While this doesn’t have the danger factor of Evel Knievel sending it over the fountain at Caesars Palace, it will be a display of just how good the Dutchman is behind the wheel of anything.

I don’t think it’s a matter of whether Max Verstappen can overtake go-karters; it’s how long it will take him to do it.

Like most F1 drivers, Verstappen started his racing career on karts, so he’ll have to reach into his old bag of tricks.

“In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking,” he said in a statement, per Motorsport. “Of course, I spent a long period of my life go-karting, so it’s always nice to return. It’s about understanding the grip of the go-kart. I’ve done so many years in go-karting that you quite naturally get back into things.”

I’m curious to see how hard the karters defend against him. On one hand, it would be cool to say you made it hard for a driver of Verstappen’s caliber to get past you, but you don’t want to be the guy who causes a crash by moving under braking or not leaving enough space through a corner.
