Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes his former franchise quarterback, Tony Romo, will “work through” his recent OWI arrest in Wisconsin.

Jones, who saw Romo under center for 13 seasons in Dallas, talked about him during a recent interview with KDFW Fox 4, saying he has been in contact with the quarterback-turned-broadcaster.

Romo was arrested on July 23 on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence, as well as allegedly possessing an open container of alcohol in his vehicle and unsafe passing to the right.

“I love him,” Jones said. “I love what he’s about. I love his character. I love his love of sport. And he’s a very, very unique talent. And the real question is – and I don’t even have to ask what the answer is: Do you think Tony Romo knows how to get up when he gets knocked down? He had a life of that. And absolutely, that’s one of his greatest attributes, is that he can handle adversity.

“So this is something that he will work though. He is a unique talent. …So, obviously, I’m a big fan of his, big fan of his family, and let me tell you right now, he’s as real as he sounds. He feels every down time, he feels every up time.”

TONY ROMO ARRESTED IN MILWAUKEE FOR ALLEGED OWI OFFENSE: REPORT

Romo’s case has been quite the NFL storyline as training camp begun across the league last week, especially as police bodycam footage became available.

Romo, who was driving after playing a round in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship, was seen telling police that he had “zero” drinks, and even questioned why they thought he was intoxicated.

“Because I’m coming from a golf course, you think I’m drunk?” Romo was heard saying.

Romo was detained by police and transported to a nearby station to conduct field sobriety tests after the arresting officer said she observed red, glassy eyes and smelled alcohol on Romo’s breath.

After completing the tests, Romo refused to take a breath test, telling the officer, “I’ve heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that.”

NFL ANALYST TONY ROMO PLACED ON LEAVE BY CBS SPORTS FOLLOWING DRUNK DRIVING ARREST IN WISCONSIN

A week later, Romo was sidelined by CBS Sports as their top NFL analyst alongside play-by-play voice Jim Nantz. The network announced this past Friday that Romo “is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice.”

It is unclear how this leave will be observed for Romo, but former Houston Texans great defensive end J.J. Watt will be taking his place in the booth next to Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.

The 46-year-old became CBS’ top NFL analyst on April 4, 2017, which was the same day he announced his retirement from the NFL.

Romo threw for 34,183 yards, 248 touchdowns and 117 interceptions, completing 65.3% of his passes during his career.
