Despite his defensive background, Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding was starting to field some uncomfortable questions about his side of the ball.

That tends to happen when you give up 52 points like the Rebels did three weeks ago against Florida.

Ole Miss completely smothered one of the best offenses in the SEC en route to a 31-3 drubbing over number 13 Missouri.

The Tigers came into today’s matchup boasting a top-ten rushing attack and one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in Austin Simmons, though you wouldn’t have been able to tell after watching this game.

Give all the credit to Golding and the Rebels’ defense, as the team held Mizzou to 39 yards rushing and harrassed Simmons all game.

The senior signal caller looked uncomfortable for virtually the entire game, throwing for 340 yards but needing nearly 50 attempts to do so.

On the other side of the ball, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss wasn’t perfect but came through when the Rebs needed him, tossing three scores and adding another on the ground.

It was the Ole Miss rushing attack that really torched the Tigers’ run defense.

The Rebels racked up 257 yards on the ground in large part because of the efforts of Kewan Lacy and backup Makhi Frazier.

Missouri looked as though they were heading for a potential College Football Playoff berth, but a blowout loss against the Rebels changes the calculus of things.

Meanwhile, Ole Miss is right back on track with all of their goals still in front of them.

The Rebels will go on the road to play a reeling Texas Longhorns team, but things don’t get much easier in terms of a path to an SEC Championship and beyond.

Ole Miss will face a November stretch that includes Georgia, Oklahoma and Mississippi State.

The Tigers, on the other hand, will travel to Fayetteville to take on Arkansas, which could be just what the doctor ordered.
