BENGALURU (Reuters) – Japanese digital elements maker TDK (OTC:) Corp will manufacture lithium ion (li-ion) battery cells for Apple (NASDAQ:) iPhones in India, a minister stated on Monday.
Apple has been touting India as its subsequent large development driver because it seems to be to maneuver some manufacturing away from China.
It started assembling iPhones within the nation in 2017 by means of Wistron and later Foxconn, and has a complete of 14 suppliers in India.
TDK will arrange a producing facility within the northern state of Haryana, creating round 1,000 new jobs, Deputy Minister for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated on social media platform X, previously generally known as Twitter.
The information was first reported by Business Standard on Sunday.
Cells manufactured on the facility can be provided to Apple’s li-ion battery assembler Sunwoda Electronics, the report added.
Apple and TDK Corp didn’t instantly reply to Reuters’ request for remark.
